A statement by Savenaca Narube, Leader of Unity Fiji and former Governor of the Reserve Bank

"The diversion tactic by the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama to swing the attention away from his cruel and inhumane deportation of the USP Vice Chancellor has backfired," says Savenaca Narube the Leader of Unity Fiji.

"This diversion tactic, used a lot by Fiji First, takes away people’s attention from the real problem and create a new issue even though it may not be true. But in this instance, it has multiplied the Prime Minister’s problems," stated Mr. Narube.

Mr. Narube added, "Attacking the highly regarded Dr Rajni Prasad was a grave error of judgement. The Prime Minister himself knows that his allegations are not true. He has clearly decided to sacrifice the integrity of an innocent woman for his political gain. In doing so, the Prime Minister has insulted women all over Fiji and the region."

"I believe the tactic has backfired. It has removed any remaining doubt that Mr. Bainimarama is not fit to be the Prime Minister of Fiji. It has confirmed to everyone that he is willing to sacrifice anyone for his survival including women and children."

"As the time rolls closer to the next elections, I believe that the nation increasingly realizes that they have made the wrong choice. The Prime Minister’s serious lack of judgement and self-control are there for everyone to see. The most recent one of attacking Dr Rajni Prasad to get back at the Leader of the National Federation Party confirms that he has no boundaries. He can hurt anyone."

"Is this the kind of Prime Minister that we would like to protect our children and women?" asked the Leader of Unity Fiji.

Mr. Narube concludes, "We often see the Prime Minister touring here and there. If it was not for COVID he would be out globetrotting. But have you heard from the Prime Minister his vision of how he will lighten the heavy burden that many of our people are suffering from? I have not. Maybe because he does not have one."
